Abstract
In her presentation, Donna Jo will consider some issues in the phonetics, phonology, and morphology of sign languages.
She will discuss one-handed and two-handed signs, drawing examples from ASL, looking at the range of mathematical symmetries that arise: reflection, glide reflection, translation, and rotation (with or without additive inversion); and ask whether the restrictions follow from linguistic principles, or constraints on motor coordination.
