Storytelling in BSL

Richard Carter is a Deaf teacher of British Sign Language (BSL) at Elmfield School, Bristol. He is also a well-known storyteller in the UK Deaf community and has performed at many Deaf venues over the past ten years.

Abstract
Richard will show us some examples of BSL storytelling and poetry. He will discuss how he uses these pieces with deaf children to develop their own narrative skills and understanding of creativity in sign. He will also discuss the contribution that Deaf teachers make in deaf education, especially in developing BSL skills and confidence to perform and question.
